Twitter set to roll out ‘read before you retweet’ feature globally – Times of India

Despite all its attempts and efforts, Twitter continues to face misinformation problem at a large scale. Now, once again to counter the problem, the social media platform is rolling out a new ‘read before you retweet’ feature. Twitter had started testing this feature in June but now it will be available to all users.
In a tweet posted by the company, it said that it had tested a prompt feature that came up when a user wanted to retweet an article. Twitter said that it led to a coupe of things. First, people opened articles 40% more often after seeing the prompt. Second, it led to “informed tweeting —people opening articles before RTing increased by 33%.”
Not everyone ended up retweeting after opening the article, Twitter said.
Twitter further said that it is working on making the prompt smaller after the users have seen it once. The new features is expected to reach “everyone globally soon”, said Twitter.
Back in June when Twitter had started the testing this feature, it said, “Sharing an article can spark conversation, so you may want to read it before you Tweet it.To help promote informed discussion, we’re testing a new prompt on Android –– when you Retweet an article that you haven’t opened on Twitter, we may ask if you’d like to open it first.”
The feature was being tested on Android only but it is now expected to reach iOS users as well. The exact date of the roll out hasn’t been revealed by the social media platform.
