Twitter tests a new “multimedia” feature for tweets – Times of India

Twitter currently allows users to post only one form of media per tweet. However, this limitation is expected to change as the micro-blogging platform is testing a new feature that will allow users to combine multiple media formats in one tweet. According to a report by TechCrunch, Twitter has confirmed that it has started testing a new multi-media feature that will allow users to post images, videos and GIFs in a single tweet.

The company has also mentioned that the new feature will be available to some users for a limited time during the testing phase, the report suggests. Moreover, other account holders will also be allowed to add tags to both photos and videos in the tweet, the company mentioned.
How will this new feature work
As per the report, Twitter has shared a statement to explain how the feature will work. The company states that the upcoming feature will allow users to “mix up to four media assets into a single tweet, regardless of format.” Moreover, the company has also observed that users are getting more involved in visual conversations on Twitter “images, GIFS and videos to make these conversations more exciting.” Apart from that, the company is also trying to “learn how people combine these different media formats to express themselves more creatively on Twitter beyond 280 characters,” with this test.

Furthermore, the report mentions that some other users have also tweeted about the feature, however, it is not clear what different media would look like in a single tweet. The report also shares a few screenshots from app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi that shows how users will be able to see different media in a carousel in the tweet composer. Users will also be allowed to easily add or remove them or even change their positions.
Other features that are being developed by Twitter
Over the past few months, Twitter has been running multiple limited tests to check the performance and usability of different features. Recently, the company announced testing a MySpace-like status feature that will allow users to attach a tag like “Hot take,” “Unpopular opinion” or “Vacation Mode.” Apart from this, Twitter has also started testing the co-authored tweet function called Co-Tweets and custom timelines built by developers.
