Nadeem was in touch with JeM and Tahreek-e-Taliban, especially JeM operative Saifullah from Pakistan through social media, ADG (law and order) Prashant Kumar said. JeM terrorists trained Nadeem for a fidayeen attack, the officer said. “During initial questioning, he confessed that he was assigned the task of killing Nupur Sharma.”
Kumar said: “Nadeem underwent a crash course in explosives and was in the process of collecting material to make IEDs to target government buildings and police premises.”
According to the officer, a PDF document titled ‘Explosive Course Fidae Force’ was found in the suspect’s mobile phone. “Investigators are trying to find out what this document was all about. This apart, chats and voice messages from listed JeM operatives and members of Pakistan- and Afghanistan-based terror organisations were also found, some of which date back to 2018,” Kumar said.
ATS sources said Nadeem used social media platforms like Telegram, Facebook Messenger and Club House to keep in touch with individuals across the border, using 30 virtual numbers on the voice over internet protocol (VIOP) mode.
“Nadeem has also confessed that terrorists of JeM and other terrorist organisations operating in Afghanistan and Pakistan were inviting him to Pakistan for advance physical training,” Kumar said. Nadeem had planned to visit Pakistan on a valid visa and then go to Egypt, Syria and Afghanistan as well.
ATS ADG Naveen Arora said police have names and details of Nadeem’s contacts in India. Suspicious contacts will be questioned and action will be initiated against those found involved.
ATS had arrested Sabauddin Azmi, 24, in Mubarakpur of Azamgarh three days ago for planning an IED blast on Independence Day. The ATS alleged that Azmi was in touch with a listed Islamic State recruiter and had subscribed to the outfit’s official Telegram channel.
