In this regard, an action plan was decided in a meeting between the UPRTOU’s Vice-Chancellor prof Seema Singh and member of KWB, Uttar Pradesh, Mahamandaleshwar Kaushalya Nand Giri alias Tina Maa of the Kinnar Akhara, on Wednesday.
Public relation officer of the open university, Prabhat Mishra informed that Mahamandaleshwar Kaushalya Nand Giri said that the campaign started by the Open University to provide free education to eunuchs is commendable. This will give a new direction to the eunuch society. She assured that she would make the transgender community aware about the educational programs of the Open University for which a list of eunuch community is being prepared by the board.
She further said that in various programs of UPRTOU, Kinnar community will also bring awareness in the society through their art forms like sohar, dance and music. On this occasion, Tina Maa garlanded the newly constructed statue of Rajarshi Tandon installed in the Saraswati campus and visited the Atal auditorium.
On this occasion, the VC welcomed Mahamandaleshwar to the university with memento and Angavastram. The VC gave Tina Maa the admission brochure of the university and other study materials. Prof Singh said that the university is constantly thinking and striving for the education of eunuchs. She said that on the instructions of Governor Anandiben Patel, the open University has started the initiative of free education for the welfare of eunuchs. This is the first step in the endeavor of the KWB and the University to work together so that its benefits reach the transgender community.
An MoU will be signed soon in this regard, she informed. Prof Singh said, “The cooperation of the society is very necessary in the initiative we have taken to educate the eunuch community. To fulfill this objective, we have to establish an all-inclusive society”.
