In view of the red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department for heavy rains, the Uttarakhand government has halted Char Dham Yatra. Pilgrims have been advised not to proceed further. Pilgrims on their way to Kedarnath have been asked to halt at Guptkashi and Gaurikund and those going to Badrinath were asked to stay back at Joshimath and Pandukeshwar till the weather improves. The India Meteorological Department has sounded a red alert for heavy rainfall over the next two days in Uttarakhand and western Uttar Pradesh. The government has banned trekking, mountaineering and camping activities. Most educational institutions across the state will remain closed as a precautionary measure in view of the heavy rain alert.
