‘The Kashmir Files’ director Vivek Agnihotri has been in the headlines since the day he announced the film. The film has till date raked in more than Rs 207 crores and is still running successfully in theatres across the country. But, a video clip from Vivek Agnihotri’s recent interview is being criticised on almost all the social media platforms. The interview has Vivek claiming that the word Bhopali means homosexuals. While answering a question about a controversy on why the film talks about Kashmiri Pandits and not Kashmiri Hindus, Vivek said, ‘Maybe both sides are correct. Pandit came to the regular usage because they were very qualified. But those who were born and brought up in Kashmir and saw Kashmiri Pandit words in use continued using the word Kashmiri Pandit. They can’t be blamed,’ while explaining what he means to say, the filmmaker said the controversial lines that, ‘I was brought up in Bhopal, but I am not Bhopali. The word Bhopali has a different connotation. I will tell you in private or you can ask some Bhopali. If you call someone a Bhopali it means the person is homosexual and with nawabi taste.’ The filmmaker has been under fire over his comment since the video was published on the public domain. Many netizens have slammed Vivek Agnihotri for his comments about ‘Bhopalis’, the latest one to call out the director is senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh.
