“We will look to improve on what we can do to reduce the injuries to players. “Players getting frequently injured is a concern and we wish to get to the bottom of it all and see how it can be changed for the better. We have to sit down and discuss what’s going wrong. We have excellent trainers, physios and other experts. But we need to talk to them and figure out why so many players are getting injured,” Binny said,” said the 67-year-old, who played 27 Tests and 72 ODIs between 1979-87, in which he took 124 international wickets.
A few days back, former India coach Ravi Shastri too had voiced his concern at India’s premier pacers breaking down frequently despite rehabilitating for long periods at NCA. “It was the most frustrating thing for me as (India coach), when you lose key players to injuries. We toured England and New Zealand twice. On all those tours, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was injured, where he’d have got a bagful of wickets with his skills. Now, you see Chahar has hardly played, and he’s injured. I was looking at the stats, Bumrah has played 5 matches since the last T20 World Cup and he’s injured. So, you’ve got to look at it very seriously, as to why it is happening,” Shastri had said.
‘Need to improve pitches in domestic cricket’
Binny also stressed on the need to improve the pitches in domestic cricket in India. “We need to make lively pitches in domestic cricket.so that when our pl;ayers go overseas, it helps them,. There needs to be more life on the wickets at home, so that our teams would not have the problem of adjusting when travelling abroad, like in Australia where there is more pace and bounce,” he said.
“I wish Roger (Binny) all the best. The new group will take this forward. The BCCI is in great hands. Indian cricket is strong so I wish them all the luck,” Ganguly said about Binny.
Office-bearers to decide on India’s representative to ICC
The BCCI’s AGM has authorised office-bearers to finalise India’s representative to the International Cricket Council, informed BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla. BCCI secretary Jay Shah is thus likely to represent India in an ICC Board of directors’ meeting on November 11-13 in Melbourne, around the final of the T20 World Cup (on Nov 13).
Meanwhile, Jay Shah said a decision to reconstitute the Cricket Advisory Committee will be taken at the first Apex Council meeting of the BCCI. The current CAC’s chairman, former India allrounder Madan Lal became ineligible to continue as he turned 70. A new CAC will thus appoint the fifth selector- a post that has been lying vacant for almost 10 months now after ex-India pacer Abey Kuruvilla had to quit the selection committee since he had completed his term.
Women’s IPL approved
The General body has approved the conduct of the Women’s IPL, which is likely to be a 5-team affair in early March, just after the Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa.

Four new grounds, which can stage First-Class cricket, have been made in the North East, the members were informed at the AGM.
