Amar Singh Chamkila’s filmmaker Imtiaz Ali reveals the reason behind the failure of Love Aaj Kal: All my films have had problems in execution | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

Director Imtiaz Ali, who is basking in the success of his recently released OTT film ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’, opened up about how he saw the beauty in exploring Chamkila’s complex personality in an interview with Hindustan Times. He shared, “He was a product of his society and a benefactor and even a victim of it.”
He further also talked about his last two films, such as ‘Love Aaj Kal’ (2020) and ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ (2017), which failed at the box office. He stated, “When I made them, I just wanted to make a movie, but they didn’t work. All my films have had some problems in execution; [I feel] they could have been better. However, I hope people see some merit in these two films also, as there are some good things that probably did not come through [at once].”
However, the public has embraced his films like ‘Tamasha’ (2015) and ‘Rockstar’ (2011), which are also referred to as some of his intellectual endeavours. When he was asked if he would produce these kinds of films again. To which, he responded, “I don’t want my films to come across as intellectual,” said Ali. He further added, “If they do, they might seem restrictive, and I don’t want them to belong to an exclusive crowd. I would love to make a masala film, but I just don’t know how to make it as I can’t help but be myself.”
Meanwhile, Ali is back in the spotlight after four years as the Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra-starrer resonate with the masses. Talking about the movie, the filmmaker, who never wanted to make a biopic, felt “it would be a magnificent story to tell at a time when people are being so judgmental”.
As the Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra film continue to find widespread appeal, Ali has returned to prominence following a four-year hiatus. The director, who had never intended to do a biography, said, “It would be a magnificent story to tell at a time when people are being so judgmental,” He concluded by saying, “The magic of cinema and the illogical madness of it should always remain. But I’m not looking forward to making any more biopics.”
