Anees Bazmee says Raj Kapoor was a terror, assistants avoided staying in the same hotel as him | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

Not many are aware that popular film-maker Anees Bazmee of ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2‘, ‘Welcome‘, ‘No Entry’ among others, had started his career by assisting Raj Kapoor. In a recent interview, the director has recalled several memories with him and experience of working with the legendary actor, director.
Anees spoke about Raj Kapoor’s anger which was quite popular. Everyone would be petrified of him, said the director.”Angry is an understatement to describe how he could be. He was a terror. I remember it well. If he was in a bad mood and yelled at someone, the entire crew – 400 people – would fall into a pin-drop silence. He had a different personality in films; good-natured… But in real life… We assistants were terrified of him,” said Anees in a interview with Siddharth Kannan.
He further recalled an incident where he was made to travel to shoot in a Jonga during the schedule of ‘Prem Rog’. Bazmee said, “While I used to travel with him on planes and stay with him in five-star hotels, but all of us assistants would prefer staying in less-fancy accommodation to avoid being near him. But once, I made some blunder, and I was told that I wouldn’t be travelling with him in a plane, but I would be travelling from Mumbai to Mysuru in a Jonga with the other assistants and all the lighting equipment. It took us three days.”
The filmmaker further praised the ‘Showman‘ and said that he doesn’t need anyone but everyone needs him.
