Veteran singer Anup Jalota, who is known for his devotional songs, was devastated with the demise of Bappi Lahiri when ETimes contacted him. Praying for his soul, the bhajan singer wished that the departed soul gets a palace of gold in heaven. “Since he was especially fond of gold, I wish that he gets a palace of gold in heaven. May he compose some beautiful music in the company of Lata didi who had left us a few days back. May his soul rest in peace,” he expressed.

Anup who admired Bappi da’s singing further said, “Someone who sets a trend in life becomes immortal. Bappi Lahiri did the same. He created and spread the disco fever and made the genre so popular that it reached each and every house. He dominated the Hindi music and film industry for quite a while. Bappi da and Mithun Chakraborty’s combination was appreciated a lot. Bappi ji’s singing and Mithun’s dancing were outstanding and well received. He was famous for creating disco songs and he has contributed many beautiful melodies.”

“His song ‘Chalte chalte mere ye geet yaad rakhna, kabhi alvida na kehna’ will always be remembered and will stay evergreen. He had a charismatic personality, with all those shiny ornaments and clothes on him. He presented himself as an international star and his music got popular worldwide,” he concluded.

Bappi Lahiri’s mortal remains are kept at his house in Mumbai for celebrities and family members to pay their last respect and will be cremated at 10 am tomorrow (Thursday).
