NEW DELHI: Beating the announcement of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for upcoming assembly polls, railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw flagged off a Jan Shatabdi Express service for poll bound Manipur and highways minister Nitin Gadkari announced invitation of bids for ropeway connectivity to Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib in Uttarakhand on Saturday.
Both the announcements came barely hours before the Election Commission announced the poll dates. Speaking at the virtual flag off of the new passenger train service between Agartala and Jiribam, Vaishnaw recalled how the railway board sanctioned the Final Location Survey for the Imphal-Moreh new rail line within hours after he assured the leaders in Manipur. The proposed link will take the rail line up to the Myanmar border.
Earlier in the day, Gadkari posted a series of decisions on his twitter handle, which included declaring three new NHs in Uttarakhand and his ministry giving approval of Rs 3,279 crore for different NH works in Uttar Pradesh. He also tweeted that an entity of NHAI has invited bids for two ropeway connectivity to religious places of Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib in Uttarakhand. The two links with a cumulative length of around 26 km will be developed with an investment of nearly Rs 1,750 crore.
TOI on August 24 had first reported about the Centre’s move to provide three ropeway links to a Hanuman temple in Nainital, Sikh shrine Hemkund Sahib, Ghangaria in Chamoli, which is the gateway to the Valley of Flowers, and Kedarnath.
