Bharat Bandh 2021: Congress exhorts opposition to make farmers’ Sep 27 Bharat Bandh a grand success | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Monday appealed to all the non-BJP parties to make the ‘Bharat Bandh’ on September 27 a grand success.
The call for a nationwide bandh was given by the farmers’ Mahapanchayat held in Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday to demand revocation of the three farm laws and according a legal status to minimum support price (MSP).
The newly-appointed in-charge of Congress’ agitation committee, Digvijaya Singh, said in a tweet in Hindi, “Kisan Mahapanchayat has proposed Bharat Bandh on September 27. All the non-BJP parties should try to make it a grand success.”

Digvijaya Singh alleged that the “anti-farmers'” laws conspired to get the mandis shut down. This is why the farmers have been protesting against them.
He further alleged that the three contentious laws were also against the consumers because the businessmen would buy the produce at cheap rate and sell them at high prices.
Digvijaya Singh said, “The friends of Modi-Shah are eyeing about Rs 20 lakh crore worth of the agriculture produce markets. The laws have been brought because the businessmen could not enter these markets in the present circumstances.”
Rahul Gandhi on Sunday tweeted in Hindi in support of the Mahapanchayat and said: “The call of truth is reverberating. You will have to listen to the unjust government.”

On Monday, he again tweeted in their favour. “They are standing firm, they are brave and they are here – the fortune-makers of India.”

All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh Priyanka Gandhi Vadra too tweeted backing the Mahapanchayat. In her tweet in Hindi, she said, “The farmers are the voice of the country. They are the pride of our country. No government’s arrogance works against the roar of the farmers. The entire country is standing with the farmers in their fight for their right to save farming and demanding the price of their hard work.”

The Kisan Mahapanchayat turned out to be a massive show of strength of farmer unity as over 300 farmer unions from 15 states participated under the aegis of the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) and reiterated their resolve to continue with the protest.
The farmers unanimously gave a call for complete Bharat Bandh on September 27 in protest against the three contentious farm laws.
They (the Centre) said that only a handful of farmers are protesting. Let them see what a handful this is today. Let us raise our voices so it reaches to the ears of those sitting in Parliament, the farmer leaders said.
The farmer leaders said that the Mahapanchayat will also prove that the agitation has the support of “all castes, religions, states, classes, small traders and all sections of the society”.
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), the umbrella body of the protesting farmers, said in a statement, “The Mahapanchayat today will make the Modi and Yogi governments realise the power of farmers, farm labourers, and supporters of the farm movement. The Muzaffarnagar Mahapanchayat will be the biggest ever in the last nine months.”
