Boom and bust: One-season wonders in IPL | Cricket News – Times of India

The IPL has seen many Indians shine surprisingly bright on the big stage, only to disappear just as suddenly.
TOI looks at five such one-season wonders…
Swapnil Asnodkar: The wicketkeeper-batsman from Goa played a key role in Rajasthan Royals‘ success in the first IPL in 2008, scoring 311 runs from 9 matches (strike rate 133) and forming a productive opening combo with Graeme Smith. However, he struggled to replicate that success in subsequent IPL seasons and sadly faded away. He now plays club cricket in Goa.

Paul Valthaty: The only non-international player to score an IPL century, Valthaty shot into the limelight with 120 off 63 balls for Punjab against Chennai in 2011, and finished as the sixth-highest run-getter. He failed to make any meaningful contributions in the next two seasons, and six single-digit scores in a row in 2013 brought an end to the Mumbai cricketer’s IPL exploits. He now plays for Air India.
Kamran Khan: The son of a woodcutter from Uttar Pradesh, the left-arm pacer with no first-class experience was spotted by Rajasthan picked for the 2009 edition. Kamran justified the faith by forcing a Super Over against KKR, and then bowling it to help the Royals win. Injuries hindered any subsequent progress and he played only nine IPL matches over three seasons.

Rahul Sharma: In 2011, playing for Pune Warriors, Rahul Sharma became a household name by dismissing Sachin Tendulkar. Thirteen wickets that season opened the door to the national team for the tall leg-spinner from Punjab. But his career went downhill after a drug bust at a rave party.
Manvinder Bisla: Having played for Deccan Chargers and Kings XI Punjab, he seemed to have found his place when he starred in KKR’s win in 2012, scoring a 48-ball 89 against CSK in the final. He got surprisingly limited opportunities after that, and though he joined RCB in 2015, his story was over.
