Coronavirus Vaccines to be sold under ‘pandemic pricing’. How much would they actually cost the public? | The Times of India

While several pharma giants have announced plans to ramp up production, some have also signed deals with countries to reserve distribution. Moderna Inc, which is working on launching their prototype, mRNA-1273 in the coming months recently announced that they will be offering their vaccine to the public, costing between $32-$37 (which equates to Rs 2,400 and Rs 2,800 roughly). The company said that the pricing will be kept in mind keeping accessibility in mind, and will be in the line of ‘pandemic pricing’- implying that the vaccine will be made available at a cheap rate during the times of crisis.

In a statement, the company said:

“We’re currently in a pandemic as defined by the World Health Organisation (WHO), like many experts, we believe the virus is not going away and there will be a need to vaccinate people or give them a boost for many years to come. Eventually, when the virus is under control and considered endemic, the pricing will follow the traditional market in line with other commercial vaccines.”
