NEW DELHI: The 2021 Census and related field activities have been postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
MoS Home Nityanand Rai stated this on Tuesday in a written reply to a question in Parliament.
The minister’s reply said that the government had informed of its intent to carry out the Census in the Gazette of India dated March 28, 2019.
He further said that 372 appointments have been made to fill the posts of Census officers in various states.
Detailing the information the Census seeks to obtain, the statement said that the mother tongue and two other languages known to an individual, in order of proficiency, are to be recorded.
