Delhi: Ukraine woman ‘holds key’ in Sushil Kumar case | Delhi News – Times of India

DELHI: Cops probing the May 4 murder of wrestler Sagar Dhankad are trying to trace a Ukrainian woman who seemed to be at the centre of the rivalry between him and the jailed Olympian Sushil Kumar. The investigators want to quiz her as they believe she may hold the key to how the enmity between the two wrestlers and their factions rapidly escalated.
Mystery shrouds this woman who allegedly used to frequent Sushil’s flat in Model Town in his absence as none of the suspects or the complainants in the case seem to have an idea of her current whereabouts. She was an acquaintance of Dhankad’s friends, Amit and Sonu Mahaal, nephew of fugitive gangster Kala Jathedi.
How selfie with girl from Ukraine disrupted ties
Cops were to quiz Mahaal on Monday but he didn’t turn up. Mahaal and Amit were also assaulted by Sushil Kumar along with Dhankad on the night of the murder.
It is alleged that Ajay Kumar, arrested in the case along with Sushil, had developed a liking for the Ukrainian girl. The two groups had clashed first when Ajay took a selfie with her. Mahaal, had celebrated this girl’s birthday at the flat during which Sushil’s best friend, Ajay, had allegedly misbehaved with her and also clicked selfies.
This had outraged Mahaal who then, along with Sagar Dhankad, got into a verbal spat with Ajay and later with Sushil.Ajay is learnt to have instigated Sushil to act against Mahaal and Dhankad and requested help in seeking revenge for the insult caused to him for taking a selfie.
Sushil, who had joined hands with gangster Neeraj Bawana by the time, then asked Mahaal and Sagar to vacate the flat. This had angered Jathedi even more because he had helped Sushil usurp that disputed flat and wanted a share.
Trouble mounted with reports that Dhankad had allegedly poached around 50-60 wrestlers from Chhatrasal Stadium and enrolled them at another akhadaoperated by a coach named Vijender, who Sushil had chucked out of Chhatrasal.
Dhankad and Vijender allegedly opened an akhaada in Nangloi and began to train wrestlers there, who otherwise went to Chhatrasal. Sushil was furious since this development and wanted to teach Dhankad a lesson.
After Ajay’s incident over the Ukrainian girl, the two groups then turned rival and finally Sushil decided to settle scores. He then abducted Dhankad, Mahaal and three others and brought them to Chhatrasal Stadium on the night of May 4-5. Sushil and others assaulted them during which Dhankad died.
