Dhaakad box office collection Day 4: Kangana Ranaut starrer struggles to make it past Rs 2 crore mark – Times of India

Kangana Ranaut has seen rewarding days at the ticket windows, but this was not one of them. The actress’ latest spy-drama ‘Dhaakad‘ has seen very poor numbers at the Indian box office.

The film that clashed with Kartik Aaryan‘s ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2‘ last weekend, is struggling to reach the Rs 2 crore nett mark, even after four days, states a report on boxofficeindia.com. This is now said to be among the poorest performing films at the Bollywood box office. Besides the film allegedly failing to get the big numbers, reports claim that low ticket sales for the film prompted theatre owners to replace the film’s screening with that of Katrik’s ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’.

The female action genre has seen very limited success in India. ‘Phool Bane Angaarey’ that released in 1992 is still considered as one of the biggest female action films that went on to become a box office hit.

However, there are films like Ranveer Singh’s ’83’, Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Zero‘ and Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Mohenjo Daro’ that also failed at the box office. ‘Dhaakad’ is likely to make up a part of its Rs 100 crore budget with satellite and digital sales. The report states that this deal may, however, be far less as they were signed late as the makers had rejected some deals before the film’s promotions started in the hope for better outcomes.

According to trade sources, ‘Dhaakad’ opened with a collection of around Rs 50 lakhs and struggled to draw the audience in over the weekend, prompting distributors to reduce the screen count of the movie. It was alleged hat “extremely low audience turnout” was the reason behind the move.

A Mumbai-based trade critic, on the condition of anonymity, told PTI, that when a film doesn’t record excellent occupancy, theatre owners often go with the movies that are receiving good reports.

“There was a need and demand in the audience for ‘Bhool Bhulaiya 2’ but nothing for ‘Dhaakad’,” he told PTI, adding the “Dhaakad” shows have definitely been reduced and cancelled in many places.

“It has happened in the past, it’s a standard industry practice. Shows of ‘Heropanti 2’ were replaced with ‘KGF 2’, shows of ‘Jayeshbhai Jordar’ were replaced with ‘Doctor Strange’, ‘Bachchhan Paandey’ was replaced with ‘The Kashmir Files’. It’s nothing new,” he further said.
