Donald Trump: Here’s why Twitter ‘locked’ Donald Trump’s account for a short while – Times of India

Twitter has been ‘correcting’ US President Donald Trump’s behaviour on Twitter for quite some time by adding warning labels to some of his tweets but the company did something unexpected to make Trump follow its rules. Twitter had locked Trump’s account on Monday for a short while for violating it’s privacy policy, as per a report by Business Insider.
After journalist Miranda Devine wrote a column in the New York Post praising how Trump fought COVID-19, Trump returned the favour by posting a ‘thank you’ tweet dedicated to Miranda by quoting some portions of the column. While the content of the tweet itself did not violate any policies, Trump had made a little mistake which Twitter was unwilling to forgive. He had added the journalist’s email address in his tweet.
The report quoted Sky News Australia and said that the journalist had a tough time after Trump posted her email ID publicly. She faced a “barrage of abuse from people online.”
Twitter was quick to respond to the incident and had locked the president’s account. The account was unlocked and Trump was allowed to tweet again only after he had deleted the tweet which contained the email address of the journalist.
Twitter enforced its privacy policy which prevents users from posting “other people’s private information without their express authorization and permission.”
“Sharing someone’s private information online without their permission, sometimes called doxxing, is a breach of their privacy and of the Twitter Rules. Sharing private information can pose serious safety and security risks for those affected and can lead to physical, emotional, and financial hardship,” as per Twitter.
Not just email address, personal information could be home address, location, government documents or any other sensitive information that is related to a particular person. Twitter takes this seriously and as per its policy an account can be “permanently suspended” if it violates this policy again after a first warning.
“The first time you violate this policy, we will require you to remove this content. We will also temporarily lock you out of your account before you can Tweet again. If you violate this policy again after your first warning, your account will be permanently suspended,” as per Twitter’s policy.
So, this can be considered as Trump’s first warning.
