Election Commission transfers 10 cops for ‘partisan’ behaviour | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The Election Commission on Monday suo-motu ordered the transfer of 10 police officers in poll-bound Karnataka, including the deputy commissioner of police (north) Bengaluru, as they were allegedly acting in a partisan manner and were perceived as close to the ruling dispensation.
The transferred officers include R Devaraju, DCP (North), Bengaluru; Arun Gouda, ACP, Yeshwanthapur, Bengaluru; Shivanna, Inspector, R R Nagar, Bengaluru; Suresh K, Inspector, Yeshwanthpur police station (PS), Bengaluru; Manjunath, Inspector, Nandini layout PS, Bengaluru; Jagadish, Inspector, Rajagopal Nagar; Manjunath, deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Surpur, Yadgir district; Manjunath S, DSP, Devadurga, Raichur district; Anand Vagamode, circle inspector, Surpur, Yadgir district; and Khwaja Hussain, circle inspector, Devadurga, Yadgir district. There are proposed to be respectively replaced by Shiva Prakash Devaraju, IPS; Vinayak N Shetagiri, Shivakumar B M, Sreekanthaiah B N, Nalavagalu Manjunatha, Ganesh Hegde, Jayappa S Nyamagoudar, Venugopal, Mahantesh K Dhamanavar and Vasantha Kumar.
Sources said even though no formal complaint was received by EC, the transfers of DCP Devaraju, Gouda, Shivanna, Suresh, Manjunath and Jagadish were necessitated as they were found to have been posted in R R Nagar area allegedly at the behest of Karnataka minister and sitting MLA Munirathna Naidu. The officers were replaced as they were perceived as close to the ruling dispensation, as per an officer.
The DSP and circle inspector in Surpur, Yadgir, were shifted out as they were found ineffective in containing “avoidable” clashes between the BJP and Congress workers earlier this month.
A DSP and circle inspector of Devadurga in Raichur district were also transferred amid reports of “intimidation” of the Congress candidate, apparently at the behest of the sitting BJP MLA. This was adversely affecting the Congress candidate’s campaign, said a source.
The election to the 224-member Karnataka assembly will be held on May 10.
