Elon Musk on Bill Gates having no clue about electric trucks – Latest News | Gadgets Now

Earlier this year, Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, commented on electric vehicles and their batteries. Writing on his blog, Gates wrote, “Even with big breakthroughs in battery technology, electric vehicles will probably never be a practical solution for things like 18-wheelers, cargo ships, and passenger jets.” Tesla CEO Elon Musk was asked on Twitter what he thought about Bill Gates’ declarations referred to electric trucks. Musk had a simple yet sharp reply to the question and said that Bill Gates “has no clue” about electric trucks.

Musk in the past has made it clear that he is not too impressed with Gates. In yet another tweet earlier this year, Musk said that his “conversations with Gates have been underwhelming.”

Gates, meanwhile, has been a ‘fan’ of electric vehicles though he doesn’t own a Tesla. In an interview earlier this year, he revealed that he drives Porsche’s electric vehicle, the Taycan. Musk didn’t comment directly on Gates buying a Porsche electric vehicle rather than Tesla.

In his recent blog post also, Gates had rather positive things to say about electric vehicles. “EVs excel at short-haul travel. That means they’re great options for personal cars and even medium-duty vehicles, like city buses and garbage trucks,” he noted on the blog. However, he remained skeptical about long-range electric vehicles. He said, “even if we develop cheap, long-range EVs that are powered by zero-carbon sources, electrification isn’t an option for many types of transportation.” Gates meanwhile didn’t mention Tesla in his blog while naming companies that are making electric pick-up trucks. “You’ll even be able to buy an all-electric pick-up truck soon thanks to legacy companies like GM and Ford and new carmakers like Rivian and Bollinger,” he wrote.

Tesla and Musk are betting big on electric trucks. It is expected that a long-haul Tesla truck will hit the roads in 2021. Called Semi, the truck will have a range of 500 miles and is expected to cost $1,80,000.
