Google is reportedly planning to launch a foldable phone under its Pixel brand next year. Internal documents revealed that the Google Pixel foldable phone is codenamed ‘Passport’ and Google may launch it by December 2021. Google has been experimenting with foldable displays for quite some time but the company hasn’t revealed much.
Samsung is the only brand to have successfully launched three foldable phones globally and it has already adopted foldable phones as a part of its new portfolio. Meanwhile, other brands are still trying their luck on creating a practical foldable phone.
Google is also working on Pixel 5a that is expected to be launched next year as well along with another device which will most likely be the Pixel 6. Google has reportedly started to develop Android builds for future Pixel phones soon after announcing the new Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5.
Meanwhile, Google is also working on what might appear to be a dedicated operating system for tablets. According to a report by Slash Gear, a representative of the Android Engagement Team has said that the company is “working on the tablet experience, both for users and for developers.” That being said, it is possible that the company is not only gearing up to ramp up software for tablets but also for foldable phones.
Talking about foldable phones, Samsung has announced its third foldable phone with the new Galaxy Z Fold 2 smartphone. When compared to the Galaxy Fold is that the new Z Fold 2 comes with a full view 6.2-inch cover display instead of the small cover display on the Fold.
Samsung is using a new hinge design called sweeper that comes with elastic fibres to keep dust and other particles outside, to increase the longevity of the device. Samsung has also reduced the thickness and the new hinge allows the device to stand at different angles.
