Google Maps to soon start showing air quality in India – Times of India

At its Google I/O 2021 event, Google has announced a slew of features that are coming to Google Maps.
Among all of them, there is one feature that is coming to India in the first wave itself for both Android and iOS users.
Soon, Google Maps in India will start showing the air quality layer stating how healthy or unhealthy the air is. Google says that for this, it has partnered with The Weather Company, AirNow.gov and the Central Pollution Control Board.
“The air quality layer will launch in Australia, India, and the US, with more countries to come,” said the company in a blog post.
As part of the new weather layer, Google Maps will also start showing current and forecasted temperature and weather conditions in an area. This feature will be available globally in the coming months.
Other features that Google has announced for Google Maps include indoors navigation with Live View, a new routing model based on lower fuel consumption, shopping information to stores’ Business Profiles on Maps and Search and more.
“Sixteen years ago, many of us held a printout of directions in one hand and the steering wheel in the other to get around— without information about the traffic along your route or details about when your favourite restaurant was open. Since then, we’ve been pushing the boundaries of what a map can do, propelled by the latest machine learning. This year, we’re on track to bring over 100 AI-powered improvements to Google Maps so you can get the most accurate, up-to-date information about the world, exactly when you need it,” said the company at Google I/O 2021.
