Grave charges framed against Vikram Chatterjee in Sonika Chauhan death case – Times of India

Actor Vikram Chatterjee will be tried for Culpable Homicide not amounting to Murder under section 304 (ii) of the IPC in the tragic accident that killed actress and model Sonika Chauhan in April 2017. Besides, Vikram will also be tried for rash driving or riding on a public way (section 279), causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others (section 338), mischief causing damage (section 427), Section 185 of Motor Vehicles Act for driving by a drunken person or by a person under the influence of drugs. The Alipore District and Session Court framed charges against the actor on today and the trial will begin from November 25.

Sonika’s friends, who took to social media demanding justice for the actress, seemed happy about the development. Model Tina Mukherjee wrote, “1135 days We waited patiently, we had our good days and bad ones, through all the good bad and ugly, we always kept the faith, we kept pushing and our angel worked her magic today. Charges filed finally . Power of prayers. #justiceforsonika (sic)” on her social media account.

On April 29, 2017, Sonika was killed in a fatal accident near Rashbehari Crossing. Vikram was allegedly intoxicated and behind the wheels when the car hit the road divider claiming Sonika’s life.
