You would need a few microfibre cloths, some cleaning wipes for electronics and a soft-bristled brush.
Cleaning speaker cabinets
For your speaker cabinets, all you need to do is to moisten one of the microfibre cloths in lukewarm water and wring it so that the excess water gets removed and the cloth is left slightly damp. Now, you can use this cloth to wipe away the dust from your cabinets. Make sure you wipe in the same direction if it is a wood cabinet. When done, pick a dry microfibre cloth and wipe in the same fashion.
Cleaning speaker grilles
Next, come the speaker grilles. In case you have fabric grilles, just roll a sticky lint brush over them once or twice. For more thorough cleaning, you can even remove the grilles but only after checking with someone who knows their way around it or reading the speaker manual.
Suppose you get the grilles out, and lay them down flat on a surface free of dirt. Now, you can wipe them using a microfibre cloth made damp with the solution of a mild detergent in water. Next, soak the second microfibre cloth in just clean water, wring it and wipe in the same fashion to remove the detergent water traces. Let the grilles air dry by themselves.
Cleaning the woofers
Speaker woofers come in a variety of materials like wood, silicone, paper, polymer etc.
You can go for a soft-bristled brush or a compressed air can for delicate woofers like the paper ones. For the tougher ones, you can even use microfibre cloth for them. But be very careful around the dome centre portion as cleaning may cause damage.
Cleaning the tweeters
The tweeters shouldn’t be cleaned using a cloth or brush as they are made up of delicate parts like sensitive cones and domes, membranes, coils, etc. You can use the can of compressed air from a distance of a few inches but not too much, just a few times.
Last, but far from least, do not hesitate in consulting a professional if you fear you will damage any speaker unit with your cleaning.
