India Covid Cases: India reports over 1.68 lakh new Covid infections, active cases highest in 208 days | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: India reported 1,68,063 new Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours, 11,660 cases less than the previous day’s count, the health ministry said on Tuesday.

According to a release by the ministry of health and family welfare on Tuesday morning, the Omicron tally rose to 4,461, with Maharashtra and Rajasthan leading the list at 1,247 and 645 infections.

Tuesday’s Covid count was 6.48% less than Monday’s when India reported 1,79,723 new cases.
The active cases has risen to 8,21,446, highest in 208 days, which comprise 2.29% of the total infections. An increase of 97,827 cases has been recorded in the active caseload in a span of 24 hours.

Deaths in the last 24 hours rose by 277, taking the total tally to 4,84,213, while that of overall infections reached 3,58,75,790. The case fatality rate was recorded at 1.35%. The 227 new fatalities include 166 from Kerala and 17 from Delhi.

Meanwhile, India reported 69,959 recoveries in the last 24 hours, including 1,171 Omicron patients. Daily positivity rate is 10.64% while the weekly rate is 8.85%. India’s recovery rate currently is at 96.36% with a total recovery of 3,45,70,131 people so far.

A total of 69,31,55,280 samples have been tested up to January 10, including 15,79,928 on Monday, as per the ministry of health.
Also, 152.89 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far under the nationwide vaccination drive, which includes around 10 lakh precaution doses given on the first day of its rollout on Monday.
According to the Government of India, the precaution doses of the Covid vaccine were administered to 5,19,604 healthcare workers, 2,01,205 frontline workers and 2,63,867 senior citizens with comorbidities on the first day of rollout.
