iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus may get some big upgrades – Times of India

It has not even half a year since the iPhone 14 lineup arrived, and while we are still months away from the new iPhones, the rumours have started pouring in, picturing what the next iPhones could look like. And this time, we learn about what upgrades the vanilla iPhone models of 2023, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, could bring to the table.
Jeff Pu of Haitong Intl Tech Research says that the iPhone models this year are in for some major camera upgrades, and the two vanilla iPhone models could get the big camera upgrade seen on the iPhone 14 Pro models.
In a research note seen by 9to5Mac, Jeff Pu shares his expectations based on the supply chain resources.
iPhone 15 vanilla models may get the 48MP camera
The analyst believes that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will adopt the three-stacked sensor architecture for the main camera with a 48MP wide lens, which as of now, is exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. However, telephoto and LiDAR sensors will still remain exclusive to the Pro models.
USB C port for all iPhones launching this year
Further, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will also ditch the lightning port for a USB C port, similar to what is expected for the iPhone 15 Pro models.
The vanilla iPhone 15 models could also get a chip upgrade with the A16 Bionic, which powers the latest iPhone 14 Pro models. Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are reported to have a much newer A17 Bionic, which is rumoured to be a 3nn chipset.
Earlier reports have suggested that iPhone 15 Pro models are also in for some upgrades, including virtual power and home buttons, and Pu reiterates the same. Further, the iPhone 15 Pro models would come with a titanium frame. The iPhone 15 Pro Max, which might launch as iPhone 15 Ultra, is said to offer a 6x periscope camera alongside the 3x telephoto lens.
Jeff Pu says that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models will come in two screen sizes – 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch – the same as the iPhone 14 series. The analyst claims that the new iPhone 15 series will hit the stores on September 23.
