iPhone 16 Pro may feature the under-display Face ID technology: Report – Times of India

Apple is reportedly planning to add the under-display Face ID technology to iPhone 16 Pro, which is expected to release in 2024. According to a report by The Elec, the display cutouts in iPhone 15 Pro (which will be released later in 2023) will remain the same as last year’s iPhone 14 Pro model. The Pro variant of the iPhone 15 series may miss out on the new feature as the under-display technology is still under development. The report explains that the Cupertino-based tech giant is likely to move the components needed for ‌Face ID‌ authentication directly under the ‌iPhone‌’s display by 2024.
How will the in-display Face ID feature work
As per the report, the TrueDepth camera for ‌Face ID‌ will not be visible under the display when it’s not in use. This will make the iPhone’s display appear “seamlessly contiguous with the surrounding screen area,” the report adds. Apple is expected to maintain the front camera hole in iPhone‌ 16 Pro’s display. However, the report claims that the new technology will improve the “overall display area and sense of immersion”.

iPhone 15 lineup: Rumours
Apart from this, the report also claims that all four models in the ‌iPhone 15‌ lineup (iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max/Ultra) will support the latest Dynamic Island feature. This new feature is available in the latest iPhone 14 Pro‌ and ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ Max. The less expensive models of the upcoming iPhone 15 series are also rumoured to get this feature.
The report also claims that the company is also working on an under-display camera (UPC) technology. Apple may adopt this technology way after the introduction of the under-display ‌Face ID‌ feature. The UPC tech is expected to eliminate all of the display cutouts that are currently present on the ‌iPhone‌.
