ITR e-filing portal new update: Dealing with income tax notices made easier – here’s how | – Times of India

Income tax e-filing ITR portal: Dealing with income tax notices, intimations, or letters can be a hassle. However, the Income Tax e-filing portal has a new update: a new feature in the ‘e-Proceedings’ tab.’ As per an ET report, this feature is designed for taxpayers with multiple ongoing tax proceedings, allowing them to quickly find and manage the specific proceedings they need to work on.

What does the new feature offer?

As per an FAQ from the Income Tax Department, the ‘e-Proceedings’ tab on the e-filing portal makes it easy to respond online to any notices, intimations, or letters from the tax department.

Changes in the e-proceedings tab: What’s new

According to chartered accountant Tarun Kumar Madaan, two changes were made to the e-filing portal to help taxpayers find their tax proceedings faster:
Less scrolling: The Income Tax Department has introduced separate pages, so you no longer have to scroll endlessly to find a specific proceeding. Before this change, navigating through multiple proceedings was tedious and prone to glitches.
Improved filters: New filters let you search by proceeding status, assessment year, proceeding date, notice date, and other criteria. This way, you can quickly find and respond to the proceedings you need.

Divya Jokhakar, Partner at B.D. Jokhakar & Co., stated that before this update, when a taxpayer clicked ‘filter,’ they had to choose the assessment year and the status of the proceeding. With the new update, taxpayers or their authorized representatives can select multiple options to more easily understand and manage several proceedings under the Income-Tax Act, 1961.

Why this update matters

Madaan says that the new updates to the ‘e-Proceedings’ feature on the Income Tax e-filing portal help taxpayers and their authorized representatives access and respond to notices, intimations, or letters from the Income Tax Department.
“These enhancements are particularly beneficial for taxpayers where the Income Tax department opens multiple proceedings; these features simplify navigation and ease the management of bulk proceedings,” he explains.
