Johnny Depp’s ex-wife Amber Heard was awarded $2 million in damages by the Virginia Jury in their defamation suit against each other in June. Now, the ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’ actor has appealed the $2 million defamation award in court. This development has come after the ‘Aquaman’ actress gave formal notice of her intent to appeal the verdict in Depp’s trial against her.
“Plaintiff and Counterclaim-Defendant John C. Depp, II, by counsel, hereby appeals to the Court of Appeals of Virginia from all adverse rulings and from the final judgment order of this Circuit Court entered on June 24, 2022,” read the notice of appeal, according to Deadline. The report further stated that the ‘Pirates’ star has put in his paper on board for the process.
The Virginia Jury awarded Depp USD 15 million in damages but Heard had to pay USD 10.35 million due to a Virginia law limiting punitive damages (the judge reduced the amount). In her countersuit, Heard won one of the three defamation counts and was awarded USD 2 million in damages.
