Jolt to RCA, Priya Punia parts ways with Rajasthan | Cricket News – Times of India

JAIPUR: India batswoman Priya Punia has decided to part ways with the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA). The 24-year-old received the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the RCA on Saturday afternoon and she said, “I have not yet decided which state I will represent in the domestic season 2021-22.” The Churu-born player had switched from Delhi to Rajasthan during the last domestic season.
Her father and coach Surendra Punia told TOI that they were not happy with RCA’s attitude and it was the main reason behind the decision.
“The promises made by the RCA while hiring Priya’s services as a professional were not kept. In the last few days when I tried getting in touch with RCA office bearers, some did not take my call and others avoided talking about the problems we were facing with the association,” he added.
The opening batter has represented India in seven ODIs and three T20Is, and plays for Supernovas in the Women’s T20 Challenge. She was also a part of the India squad that recently travelled to England for one-off Test, ODI and T20I series. Due to Punia’s international commitments during the last domestic season, she could not play any match of the Women’s Senior One-Day Trophy 2020-21.
The right-hand batter was brought to Rajasthan as a professional with an aim to strengthen the side which has been struggling to find its feet in the domestic circuit. Punia’s decision is a blow to the RCA and it also reflects badly on them, leaving a question mark on the functioning of the state body.
