The minister was speaking after a meeting of higher education department officials and brass.
Vigilance measures will be put in place to ensure strict adherence to standard operating procedures while continuing with offline classes and examinations as per the timetable scheduled by universities, the minister said.
The decision applies to universities, colleges, polytechnic institutions, and all other higher educational institutions. He said the decision will be communicated to these institutions. Educational institutions have committees to look into Covid precautions and they will have to be stricter, he said.
The minister said the effect of a possible second wave of Covid-19 on academic activities was discussed with the chief minister as well. “Matters with regard to conducting of online and regular classes, higher semester exams and lower semester exams were also discussed in detail,” he said.
It was also decided to submit a request to the additional chief secretary to continue with the functioning of hostels that work under the department of social welfare and backward classes.
