khan: US says no truth to charges it wants to oust Imran Khan – Times of India

WASHINGTON: The United States is trashing allegations by Pakistan‘s prime minister Imran Khan and his supporters that Washington is seeking his ouster amid a political meltdown in Islamabad over a no-confidence motion in the country’s national assembly that is expected to result in his defeat and his removal from office.
“There is no truth to these allegations,” a state department spokesperson said on Thursday after Imran Khan, without specifically naming the US, went on a lengthy diatribe on national television about a foreign conspiracy to oust him because of his “independent foreign policy” and his visit to Moscow on the eve of Russia‘s invasion of Ukraine.
For long a bogeyman in Pakistan even as it lived off US military and economic aid, Washington has returned to being a villain in the eyes of Imran Khan even though (or perhaps because) it has largely ignored him. Having lost the support of many of his allies, and almost certain to face legislative defeat, Khan has invoked the specter of traitors inside Pakistan who he claims are working with foreign powers to topple him from office.
