KIIT tops Atal rankings 2021 in self-financing institutions category – Times of India

Bhubaneswar: The Centre on Wednesday announced the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA), 2021. KIIT deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar secured Rank 1 among self-financing/private institutions of the country in this ranking framework.

ARIIA is a joint initiative of the ministry of education and the all-India council of technical education (AICTE) to systematically rank higher educational institutions in India on parameters like patent filing and granted, number of registered students and faculty start-ups, fund generation by incubated start-ups, specialised infrastructure created by institutions to promote innovation and entrepreneurship.

Ranks have been announced in nine separate categories including Centrally funded technical institutions, state universities, state standalone technical colleges, private universities, private standalone technical colleges, non-technical government and private universities and institutions. Except KIIT, no other institutions secured a place in the top 10 educational institutions of the country in these nine categories of the ARIIA 2021.

In the category of institute of national importance and central universities/central funded technical institutes (technical), IIT Bhubaneswar got a place in the ‘band-performer’ column. Gandhi Institute of Engineering and Technology University found a place in ‘Band-Excellent’ column in the private university category.

Similarly, Centurion University of Technology and Management (CUTM) and CV Raman Global University secured place in the Band-Performer column of the ranking’s private university (technical) category. Sri Sri University and a few other institutes found mention in different bands of categories of the ARIIA.

KIIT official sources said that it has achieved the top place in this prestigious ranking due to its innovation and entrepreneurship centres, advanced laboratories, centers of excellence, collaborations with industries and international institutions.

Achyuta Samanta, founder of KIIT and KISS, while congratulating all the staff and students of the institution said they got the top position for the second time in a row. It proved excellence in the field of research and innovation, he added.

Union minister of state for education Subhas Sarkar announced the ranking in the presence of AICTE chairman Anil D Sahasrabudhe. IIT Madras has been recognized as the most innovative educational institution in the country.
