Lord of the Rings: The Lord of the Rings The Battle for Middle-earth Reforged: Here’s the first look – Times of India

Electronic Arts’ cult strategy game series The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth, despite having been a criminally lesser-known RTS series compared to the likes of Age of Empires and Company of Heroes, has got legions of fans around the world. The strategy games were heavily-influenced by Peter Jackson’s LOTR trilogy, with the film actors giving their voices for their characters in the game. Due to the expiration of the license, EA had to shut down the game servers. It became harder to get the physical copies of the games as years passed and now, a lot many who played the games (3 of them) just remember them as one of the best real-time strategy games they’ve ever played. It is quite possible that they are the best Lord of the Rings strategy games yet.
In 2018, a fan project called Battle for Middle-earth: Reforged was announced which aimed to remake Battle for Middle-earth in Ultra HD with Unreal Engine 4. Two years later, the first look at the game has been dropped on YouTube and it looks phenomenal. It is 2020 and that fans have been doing some serious work on a complete overhaul of The Battle for Middle-earth shows. Here is the video.

The resolution of the game can be set to 4K (3840 x 2160), as can be seen in the video. Also, the framerate cap of 30fps has been considerably upped. Buildings get built faster and construction can be cancelled midway. The unit, model and terrain details have been exceptionally enhanced as compared to the actual games. Many things shown in the video aren’t final yet but going by the determination of the fan team behind this project, we may see the project come to fruition in coming times.
