Stating this at first general meeting of academic council for of the university for the academic year 2020-21 here on Tuesday, P S Yadapadithaya, vice-chancellor said Dr C N Ashwath Narayan, minister for higher education is keen that Karnataka is the first state to get off the blocks in implementing NEP. The university needs to be in sync with the government’s and minister’s vision and the task force will aid these concerted efforts, he said.
Each of the sub-committees, comprising up to 10 members will have a Syndicate member on it. These committees will look into administrative, examination, finance, development, human resource reforms, extension and outreach activities, sports and cultural policy among issues that will help the university progress. They have to come up with weekly, monthly and quarterly reports and their entire functioning will be time bound and target oriented, the vice-chancellor explained.
The heads of the sub-committees, members of the task force, have the option to co-opt members from among domain experts who can lend value to their area of focus, he said. Deans of various faculty, senior teaching staff, student representatives, alumni, teacher bodies, statutory officers will be on these sub-committees, VC said. “This will give the university a first mover advantage in understanding the intent and import of the Council with NEP,” he said.
The sub-committees will work under my overall supervision and guidance, Yadapadithaya said. “I have decided to utilise the services of three academicians of repute who will act in an advisory capacity,” the VC said. “It is my ardent hope that the committees will be able to come up with a draft report from their given areas in the next three months by which time even the Higher Education Council is expected to announce its plans for NEP in the state,” he said.
