‘Mili’ vs ‘Double XL’ box office collection Day 3: Janhvi Kapoor starrer crosses Rs 1 crore mark; Sonakshi Sinha-Huma Qureshi’s film still under Rs 50 lakh – Times of India

It was a tough weekend at the box office for Bollywood starlets who couldn’t seem to rake in the big bucks. The Hindi film industry saw the releases of three new female centric films, including Katrina Kaif‘s ‘Phone Bhoot’, Janhvi Kapoor’s survival thriller ‘Mili’ and Sonakshi Sinha and Huma Qureshi’s ‘Double XL’.

While the Kat starrer went on to end its weekend with a Rs 7.10 crore collection, Janhvi and Sonakshi saw lower collections.

‘Mili’, that opened to collections of Rs 35 lakh, saw growth in numbers on Saturday and Sunday, with its collections rising from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 65 lakh. The film’s total weekend collection rounded off to an estimated Rs 1.50 crore nett, states a report on boxofficeindia.com.

‘Mili’ is directed by Mathukutty Xavier and produced by Boney Kapoor. The film stars Janhvi, Sunny Kaushal and Manoj Pahwa. A remake of the director’s own 2019 Malayalam film ‘Helen’, it follows a woman stuck in a freezer fighting to stay alive.

Meanwhile, ‘Double XL’ struggled to cross the Rs 50 lakh mark over its first weekend at the box office. The film that started its weekend with a collection of Rs 12.50 lakh, earned an estimated Rs 17.50 lakh on day 2 and kept the graph stable on Sunday, thus rounding off its first weekend collections at just around Rs 47.50 lakh.

‘Double XL’ follows the journey of two plus-size women, Rajshree Trivedi from Meerut and Saira Khanna from New Delhi, as they navigate society’s beauty standards.
