Narco-terror case: SIA raids Sopore den, arrests woman kingpin | India News – Times of India

SRINAGAR: After a month-long chase of elusive leads regarding the identity of the kingpin of a narco-terror module, the State Investigation Agency (SIA), Kashmir, on Wednesday arrested a woman who has overseen at least Rs 10 crore worth of narcotics smuggled into India from Pakistan and raided her residence in Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district in a narco-terrorism nexus case.
Mobile devices, bank passbooks, a diary-type notebook and Indian currency worth Rs 1,99,800 were seized from the spot. These were being examined to unravel details about other members of the syndicate, the SIA said in a statement while withholding the woman’s identity.
“The searches were conducted at her Sopore den and digital devices among other records having a bearing on the case were seized,” the statement said, adding that the investigation into the secret dealings of the syndicate was being carried out in the case registered under relevant sections of the NDPS and UAPA Acts.
According to the statement, the preliminary probe that triggered this investigation indicated that consignments of smuggled heroin and other narcotics/psychotropic substances were being partly sold in local markets. The bulk of the contraband, however, was further smuggled to other parts of the country for sale. Proceeds of the sale, as per initial findings, are being brought back to Kashmir and used to finance terror and separatist organisations/ terrorists to fuel their unlawful activities.
