Netizens troll Anu Malik for copying Israel’s national anthem tune for a Bollywood song in 1996 – Times of India

Singer-composer Anu Malik has started trending on social media after Israel won their second gold medal at the ongoing Olympics. The connection between the two being the Israeli National Anthem! After Israeli gymnast Artem Dolgopyat won a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, in artistic gymnastics, the country’s flag was raised and their national anthem Hatikvah was played. Soon after, netizens started drawing comparisons between the Israeli national anthem tune and Anu Malik composed song ‘Mera Mulk Mera Desh’ from 1996 release ‘Diljale’. The musician was trolled on Twitter for copying the tune of Israel’s national anthem. Hatikvah dates back to the 19
th century and Twitter users had a field day calling out Anu Malik for copying a country’s national anthem.

Ajay Devgn, Madhoo and Sonali Bendre starrer ‘Diljale’ featured the track ‘Mera Mulk Mera Desh’. The film was directed by Harry Baweja and also starred Parmeet Sethi, Shakti Kapoor, Gulshan Grover and Amrish Puri in supporting roles.

Last year, singer-composer Anu Malik has released a song titled ‘Happy happy rehne ka please don’t worry’, urging people to stay happy amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. “I came up with this song only to uplift the mood of everybody who is at home under lockdown due to the coronavirus. I want to make them happy and to tell them not to give up and keep fighting,” he had told IANS. Currently he is playing a judge on a singing reality show.
