Number of unicorns in India have reached 100-mark, says PM Modi in 89th edition of Mann Ki Baat | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday addressed the 89th edition of his monthly radio address Mann Ki Baat, where he spoke about India’s startups reaching new heights in the coming future.
PM Modi also spoke about the Covid situation in the country, and the ongoing Char Dham yatra in Uttarakhand. Here’s what he said:
India’s startup ecosystem has penetrated to grassroot level
“India’s startup ecosystem has penetrated to rural and grassroot levels,” PM Modi said
He added he was confident that in the coming future we will witness startups reaching new heights in India.
“Right mentoring can take a startup to new heights. India has many such mentors who are committed to help startups in the country,” he further added.
The prime minister in his recorded address also added that – “India has scored a very special century… The number of unicorns in the country has reached 100. Our start-ups are reflecting the spirit of New India.”
“One unicorn means a startup of at least Rs 7,500 crore turnover. The total valuation of these unicorns is USD 330 billion, that is over Rs 25 lakh crore. Surely it is a matter of immense pride for every Indian,” the prime minister said.
“The total valuation of these Unicorns is more than 330 billion dollars, that is, more than 25 lakh crore rupees,” he told the nation.
Maintain cleanliness at pilgrimage sites
The Char Dham Yatra is underway in Uttarakhand where thousands of pilgrims are arriving.
“I’ve seen pilgrims in Kedarnath are saddened by litter spread by some pilgrims,” he said in his radio address.
He added that some pilgrims are cleaning nearby areas of their stay during their Yatra. He urged everyone to keep the environment clean and maintain sanitation at religious places.
Many yatras like ‘Amarnath Yatra’- such as ‘Pandharpur Yatra’ and ‘Jagannath Yatra’ will also be organised in the coming times.
‘Yoga for Humanity’ is theme for June 21
PM Modi also stressed on the importance of practising yoga for individual well being during his address.
“On 21st June we will celebrate the International Yoga Day, themed Yoga for Humanity. I request all to take part as with Yoga we can enhance spiritual, mental & physical well-being”
He added that the pandemic has made us realise the importance of health and yoga.
“Different Indian Missions across the world will celebrate International Yoga Day by practicing Yoga during sunrise in their respective countries. This will be like a relay Yoga event,” he said.
Women’s self-help groups initiative
The prime minister told the nation that several women self-help groups stores and kiosks are opening in Tamil Nadu‘s Thanjavur.
These stores will help women sell their products directly to the customers, increase their income and empower them.
“Recently, I received Thanjavur Dolls from SHGs from Tamil Nadu. It has also received GI- tag & is making our women aatma nirbhar (self reliant)”
The initiative has been named ‘Tharagaigal Kaivinai Porutkal Virpanai Angadi.
PM recalls recent visit to Japan
The Prime Minister recalled his recent Japan visit in which he met three interesting individuals who are passionate about Indian culture.
“Besides them, the other two people I met in Japan are Atsushi Matsuo-ji and Kenji Yoshi-ji. Both of them are associated with TEM Production Company. This company is associated with the Japanese Animation Film based on Ramayana that was released in 1993,” he said.
