PM Modi assures new Nepal PM of early supply of vaccines | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured Nepal of early supply of vaccines, his new Nepal counterpart Sher Bahadur Deuba said Monday.
Modi spoke to Deuba after the latter won the trust vote in Parliament Sunday and pledged support to Nepal.
Recalling the unique and millenia-old people-to-people linkages that underpin the special friendship between India and Nepal, said the ministry of external affairs in a statement, the leaders agreed to work together to enhance bilateral cooperation in all areas.
“They discussed, in particular, ways to strengthen cooperation and coordination in the context of ongoing effort against the Covid-19 pandemic,” said the statement.
Nepal has been pressing India to allow the Serum Institute of India to honour its commercial agreement with Kathmandu for supply of Covishield vaccine.
India effectively banned the export of vaccines after the domestic shortage reported earlier this year. The neighbouring country had signed a contract for two million doses with Serum, out of which only a million was delivered.
