NEW DELHI: Indian National Congress leader Rahul Gandhi along with several MPs from the party staged a protest at the Parliament in support of the ongoing farmers’ struggle.
The farmers, who have been camping along Delhi borders for months have arrived at Jantar Mantar to reinforce their agitation against the farm laws. A group of 200 farmers was escorted by Delhi police from Singhu border to reach Jantar Mantar, where they will be protesting for the entire duration of the Monsoon Session of the Parliament.
“This struggle is going on for 8 months. Our panchayat is peacefully running for 8 months. Peacefully, we will keep our point in front of the government. The Panchayat will be held at Jantar Mantar, which is being called Kisan Parliament. 5 buses will go to Delhi. We will stay at Jantar Mantar for the entire Parliament session,” Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait said.

Congress MPs from both houses gathered outside Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in Parliament complex and raised slogans against the government and the prime minister.
They also carried placards and hoardings to raise slogans in support of the farmers and their demands.
The Congress has been demanding the repeal of the three farm laws, which the farmers are against alleging that these legislations will end the mandi and MSP procurement systems and leave them at the mercy of big corporates. The government has rejected these apprehensions as misplaced.
