Rani Mukerji to play the lead in best friend Vaibhavi Merchant’s directorial debut: Report – Times of India

Rani Mukerji received much appreciation for her heart-wrenching portrayal of a mother in ‘Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway’. The actress has now locked her next project and it will be helmed by her bestie!
If buzz is to be believed then Rani Mukerji has signed on the dotted line for a film, which will launch Vaibhavi Merchant as a director in Bollywood. According to a news portal, this small budget movie will be backed by Rani’s husband, Aditya Chopra’s production house and will be directed by Vaibhavi. Rani and the actor-choreographer Vaibhavi have been friends since decades and have collaborated over several projects in the past.

Rani received a lot of praise for her last film, which was adapted from a true story of Sagarika Chakraborty, whose children were taken away from them by the Norwegian Childcare System (Barnevernet) in 2011. Speaking about the movie, Rani had shared, “The film resonates with one emotion which is the mother’s emotion. This movie is a reminder to all children in the world that there’s no greater emotion or relationship than with a mother. As a mother, I couldn’t place myself in Sagarika’s shoes because it is a painful thought to be separated from your child.”
