One of her earliest memories of Bappi Lahiri was his jovial and amicable personality. She recalls, “Back in the day, Bappi da had an apartment in Juhu and we’d all gone there for a party. He was very courteous, sweet and humble. I remember going to Bappi da’s bungalow with Mithun, too. He wanted us to listen to the new compositions for a film. Most of my interactions with him were for music and work. That’s how it used to be. I remember even for ‘Laila Manju’, my songs were recorded by Lata Mangeshkar and Mohd Rafi, but I never met them.”
One of Bappi Lahiri’s iconic compositions was made for Ranjeeta’s 1981 film Armaan. She says, “Bappi da gave a beautiful song in the movie ‘Armaan’, the iconic ‘Rambha Ho‘. Even though it wasn’t for me, it’s a composition that has entertained us through the years. Also, all the songs of Suraksha were hits and they were all such great compositions.”
Bring up the topic of Bappi’s legacy as a Disco King and Ranjeeta quips, “I feel, beyond the ‘Disco King’ moniker, he was an all-rounder. He was such a fantastic musician and composer. His songs from ‘Namak Halal’ are pure magic. But above all Bappi da was such a nice human being. He had a very nice vibe. He brought up his children with so much cultural influence, too.”
