Rape accused set fire to girl’s house, 2 babies hurt | India News – Times of India

KANPUR: Two men accused of gang-raping an underage girl one-and-a-half years ago allegedly set her house on fire in a village in UP’s Unnao district late Monday, leaving her four-month-old son born out of the sexual assault and her sister’s three-month-old daughter with 40% burns, police said Tuesday.
The girl’s mother accused her father-in-law and brother-in-law of assisting the rape accused in the arson to silence the family. It couldn’t be immediately known why the girl’s grandfather and uncle agreed to help the two.

Circle officer Santosh Kumar said a police complaint was lodged accordingly and the girl’s uncle has been picked up.
“Efforts were on to arrest the others. The two infants are being treated in hospital,” he said. The infants suffered critical burn wounds, doctors said.
The family alleged that two accused have been mounting pressure on them to withdraw the rape complaint, which they refused. According to police, girl was gang-raped and gave birth to a child four months ago. Police had registered a case and picked up three youths. Two of them are out on bail and they allegedly connived with the girl’s grandfather and uncle to burn down her house in a vicious revenge attack. It couldn’t be immediately known why the girl’s relatives agreed to help the two rape suspects.
