‘Sardar Udham’ actor Banita Sandhu reveals how battle with depression made her better equipped to deal with stress – Times of India

Banita Sandhu, who made an impressive debut with Shoojit Sircar’s ‘October’ opposite Varun Dhawan, plays Udham Singh’s mute Punjabi beloved Reshma in Shoojit’s latest release ‘Sardar Udham’. Speaking to an entertainment portal, the actor recently opened up on how depression made her better equipped to handle the stress related to COVID-19 lockdowns.

Giving a peek into how things worked out after her debut film, Banita Sandhu revealed that she returned to her University to complete her graduation but she was having a tough time handing the mental stress at that time. So, she decided to take a year-long break to work on her mental health.

When ‘October’ was released, she was in her last year of University and making a debut in showbiz took a toll on her. According to the actress, it almost drained her mentally and it was difficult to recover from the stress because Banita was not sure about her acting career’s longevity. The actress says she has never been after the buzz, quick fame or quick rewards. It’s her love for acting that inspired her to choose this profession. She also revealed how for the last three years she has been battling depression. But it has made her better equipped to handle all the stress.

The October actress further added that just like everyone else the COVID-19 pandemic took a toll on her as well. It slowed down her career but she is just grateful that she and her family sailed through the tough time.

Banita is happy and relieved to see finally the entertainment industry is getting back to its normal shape. It also makes her happy that a lot is happening right now. The actress hopes with cinemas resuming operation again it will remain open and we don’t have to face yet another lockdown.
