Shatrughan Sinha reveals how Dev Anand helped him overcome insecurities about the scar on his face – Times of India

Veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha has had a deep scar on his face when he started his career in the film industry. Though he had immense self-confidence, he was pretty insecure about his scar and used to cover his face with his hands during his initial days. He had also spoken to a plastic surgeon and was about to get an operation. However, it was Dev Anand who helped him overcome his insecurities.
“He made me realise that you are working and are loved. Soon, this scar will go on to become a style statement. Dev ji also gave me the example of his teeth, which had gaps. It was loved by the audience. I would like to tell the same to the younger generation too that if you are confident and good at your work, these flaws do not matter,” Shatrughan told Aaj Tak at a recent event.

Talking about how he got his scar, Shatrughan recalled that he was around 2-3 years old when his maternal uncle was about to leave to the US for studies. On the day of his departure, he shaved and kept the razor nearby. The actor picked it up and tried to shave his sister’s face. She was left with a cut. He then tried the razor on his face thinking that his sister didn’t know to do it, he gave himself a deep cut while trying to shave.

Only a few years ago Shatrughan had learned that he was not even taken to the hospital to get stitched up while he was bleeding from the cut. He said that his mother and aunt covered up the wound with ashes since they were busy packing for his uncle. “Main toh baccha tha aur yeh daag reh gaya,” he added.

He further said, “When I, with a face like this could become an actor, people were inspired. On the other hand, Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar and Dev Anand’s good looks left people in sweats.” He also mentioned how his daughter Sonakshi Sinha had said a few years ago that the scar is the best thing about her father.
