Smriti Irani recalls telling Sushant Singh Rajput not to kill himself – Times of India

It’s been three years since the demise of Bollywood’s young star Sushant Singh Rajput, yet it seems like the misfortune happened just yesterday. To date, people have not been able to digest that the actor is no more and express their grief and shock. Recently, former actress and Union minister of Women and Child Development and Minority Affairs, Smriti Irani, recalled the actor and the event of his untimely demise and shared how numb she felt upon hearing the news.
Smriti Irani mentioned that she was in the middle of a video conference when she got the news of Sushant’s demise. During her conversation with Neelesh Mishra on The Slow Conversation, Smriti got emotional when she said that she was in mid of a video call with so many people, and she stopped in between. She felt like why didn’t Sushant call her. She recalled telling him ‘tum yaar maarna mat apne aap ko’ (please don’t kill yourself).

Further, in the same conversation, Smriti revealed that soon after getting the news, she called SSR’s ‘Kai Po Che’ co-star Amit Sadh to ensure that he doesn’t do anything stupid. She said she had a feeling that he might do something wrong and thus, called up to check up on him. Amit too was in shock and distress because of Rajput’s news and said Sushant told him that he didn’t want to live.
Smiti and Sushant used to work on adjacent sets. Further, when she was the I&B minister, she once invited him for a masterclass on the IFFI stage.
