LIVE UPDATES: India’s T20 World Cup Squad Announcement
The tournament runs from June 2 to 29. England open their campaign against Scotland in Barbados on June 4.
The same squad will also feature in the four-match T20I series against Pakistan in May.
Archer has recovered from a right elbow injury and returns to national colours after a gap over a year. He last featured in England’s squad for their tour of Bangladesh in 2023 last March.
Tom Hartley, the left-arm spinner, is the only uncapped player in the squad.
Notably, the ECB press release read that “selected players, currently playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL), will return in time for the series against Pakistan, which gets underway at Headingley on Wednesday 22 May 2024.”
That means any England player currently involved in the IPL and selected in the T20 World Cup squad won’t be available for the IPL playoffs.
Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone and Phil Salt are all part of the IPL currently.
