Two days after the arrest, the cops had claimed that the missing teenager, Kedar Singh Bhandari, “escaped from police custody and jumped into the Ganga river flowing near the police station while fleeing cops”.
Kedar, a resident of Uttarkashi, had left home on August 18 to participate in an Agniveer recruitment rally in Kotdwar, Pauri Garhwal district on August 20.
According to his family, Kedar told his parents over the phone that he and his friend had attended the rally and had returned to Rishikesh from where they would take a bus home. That was August 21. Hours later, though, he seems to have been arrested by police under circumstances that aren’t very clear. A day later, Kedar’s parents received a call from Lakshmanjhula police about their son’s disappearance.
Almost three months after that call, the boy is yet to be found with the cops failing to give proper answers about him to his kin.
