After Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina offered India the use of the Chittagong Port, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram K Doraiswami on May 28 informed that finalisation of trial runs at the port are underway so the use can commence. “If you look at history before independence, Chittagong port was developed by serving entire hinterland that consists of not only today’s Bangladesh but also Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland and Mizoram. So, we’ve had an agreement to use Chittagong and Mongla ports. We’re looking at finalisation of trial runs so we can actually start using it,” he said. “Terrorist groups are active in many places. PM of Bangladesh has taken strong steps against them. She has publically stated and worked towards commitment that Bangladesh has zero-tolerance for terrorism,” said Vikram K Doraiswami while commenting on active terrorist groups.
